Your last opportunity to see Kiiko Matsumoto Sensei at a live seminar in Australia, is happening in March 2025!

On the 21st-23rd of March 2025, in Sydney, Australia, Qiology is hosting world famous acupuncture presenter, Kiiko Matsumoto Sensei accompanied by KMS Instructor, Monika Kobylecka for our next Seminar:

Kiiko 2025 | New and Advanced Topics in KMS Acupuncture

This unique opportunity, 11 years after Kiiko Sensei’s last Australian teaching visit, presents practitioners and students of acupuncture with the ability to see one of the world’s living masters of acupuncture for the last time in Australia. This is a must attend event, and one of the most anticipated acupuncture CPD events in Australia for 2025. This will be an iconic moment in acupuncture education in Australia that the present and emerging generations of Australian acupuncturists will benefit from taking part in – An opportunity to learn directly from one of the most significant acupuncture masters of our generation.

Kiiko Matsumoto Style of Acupuncture is renowned worldwide for its clinical effectiveness, and for this reason it’s a highly sought after system of treatment to learn through acupuncture CPD. Those who experience KMS acupuncture treatments receive rapid clinical results, and practitioners become well known for being able to rapidly assist with all varieties of disorders encountered in their acupuncture clinics. We can thank Kiiko Sensei for her tireless development of this style, so that we may be evermore effective in our clinics.

Kiiko Matsumoto Style Acupuncture has been continuing to evolve over the years as Kiiko Matsumoto refines and develops the treatment strategies that she has integrated as a result of her study with important Japanese acupuncture Masters, including Master Nagano, Master Kawai and Dr. Manaka. Kiiko Sensei has also developed many of her own unique treatment strategies based on her insights on emerging patient trends in recent years.

IMG_4896-1 KIIKO 2025 | Sydney, Australia

During this 3-day seminar, Kiiko Sensei will not only cover the hallmarks of the KMS style of acupuncture that have made it well-known worldwide, but will demonstrate several of the latest developments in the style from the last 10+ years, as well as the newest treatment methods and theories that are currently in development through her tireless research in her clinical practice- Treatments that work rapidly, which we can observe working in real time. It’s here where we take the guesswork out of getting clinical results, and confirm in the moment that the treatment point we are using is having a healing impact on our patients through immediate palpation-based feedback.

Each of the 3-days will focus on the diagnostic zones of the abdomen, the neck and the back with a variety of new and advanced diagnostic and treatment methods based on Kiiko’s latest clinical experience being covered in detail.

This masterclass seminar will be suitable for those who are new to the style, those who are beginners, intermediate or advanced in the style. What you will learn will be applicable the next day in the clinic.

Further to that, you will leave this seminar feeling absolutely inspired by the brilliance of Kiiko Matsumoto Sensei.

For those wishing to advance further in the KMS style after completing this seminar, we will be able to recommend various pathways of study and development, and will make various trainings available to you into the future.

I am absolutely ecstatic about Kiiko Matsumoto Sensei’s final Australian seminar that we are hosting in Sydney in March 2025.

Not only do I walk away from Kiiko Sensei’s seminars with an exponentially increased understanding of acupuncture, and new methods in how to achieve great and lasting clinical results, but it’s simply the most fun and enriching seminar experience seeing Kiiko Sensei in action. She is just brilliant, and lights up everyone with her presence, her depth of knowledge and her amazing treatment methods.
There is a very good reason that Kiiko Sensei has inspired so many acupuncturists, students and acupuncture educators worldwide.
Don’t miss out on seeing one of our generation’s true masters in action…

Kiiko Matsumoto Style Acupuncture is characterised by:

  • Diagnosis through palpation – instant feedback for patient and practitioner through touch
  • Holistic approach – addressing the entire person to get to the root of problem.
  • Japanese tradition – steeped in tradition, yet innovative.
  • Eclectic methods – wide variety of methods tailored to each individual.

Benefits of Kiiko Matsumoto Style (KMS) Acupuncture

  • The palpatory diagnostic methods in this style of acupuncture offer the practitioner an instant measure as to the effectiveness of their treatment. Both the acupuncturist and the patient will have instant feedback as to how well the treatment is working because the same reflexes which are used to determine the best treatment for a patient are also the gauge by which the treatment can be assessed.
  • Kiiko Style acupuncture offers a totally new way to look at patients. It combines classical Chinese medical principles with modern pathophysiology in a way that facilitates the understanding and brings out the best in both.
  • Within the treatment methods used in KMS, there is a technique suitable for any patient. As a rule the needling methods are shallow and virtually painless, using the smallest gauge needles. However, for the patient for which needling is contraindicated, there are numerous non-invasive techniques that are highly effective. The use of diodes, magnets, and other techniques give the practitioner many options with which to treat the most difficult patient.
  • In many ways, KMS acupuncture takes the practice of acupuncture from the ambiguous realm of theory into the direct experience of reality. There is no more wondering week after week if the points you are using for their supposed actions and effects will work for the diagnosis which seemed so plausible on paper. In this system “you treat what you feel”. If the reflex is not present, or if specific treatment points do not significantly change the reflex quality, then some other more viable treatment option must be found. Both the practitioner and the patient always have some immediate indication as to the effectiveness of the treatment.

An Inspirational Short Video with Kiiko Matsumoto Sensei:

“Conversation with a Master”

In this video, Kiiko Sensei covers some vitally important concepts regarding how it’s vitally important for us as acupuncturists to find the most effective acupuncture points for the individual that we are in fact treating in that moment.
If we use our skills to find the “Silver,” “Gold” or “Diamond” levels of acupuncture point indicated for that specific patient, then we can achieve amazing clinical results. Kiiko Sensei gives some examples of patient cases from her clinical practice to outline this concept.

Guided by the Chinese medicine classics, through the work of Kiiko Sensei’s own masters, and through her own tireless research on her patients in her clinical practice combined with teaching internationally, Kiiko uses her unique palpation diagnostics to find the relevant diagnostic zones and the most effective acupuncture points to use in all types of conditions encountered in the clinic. By gathering this unique information and sharing it internationally with her students and instructors, we continue to gather the most effective strategies to help in effectively treating our patients.

Monika Kobylecka, with Master Acupuncturist Kiiko Matsumoto

Monika Kobylecka is a licensed acupuncturist practicing Kiiko Matsumoto Style (KMS) acupuncture at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA). Monika completed her Master of Science degree at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine where she was first introduced to Japanese acupuncture. What shaped her current practice was meeting renowned Japanese practitioner Kiiko Matsumoto in 2004 and learning this master’s unique style. It was during one of the first classes Monika attended with Ms. Matusmoto that she discovered how acupuncture can be practical, effective and interactive – something that a patient doesn’t have to believe is working; they can feel it working right during the treatment.

For over a decade, Monika worked closely with Ms. Matsumoto – observing her in her clinic in Boston, and assisting her in her seminars. She continues to learn from Ms. Matsumoto and has been selected as an approved instructor for the introductory, hands-on classes in KMS acupuncture in the United States and around the world, and is one of the most sought after online teachers of KMS acupuncture methods.

Back home in Los Angeles, Monika’s private practice is based at CHLA where she holds privileges. She sees paediatric patients in an integrative setting of the Pediatric Pain Clinic; is involved in ongoing research on the effects of acupuncture; and runs the CHLA Employee Acupuncture Clinic which provides acupuncture to physicians, nurses and hospital staff.

Her passion for acupuncture, facilitated by Kiiko Matsumoto Style, translates into an ongoing effort to bridge the gap between Eastern and Western medicine in a practical and patient-focused manner.

As is required by National Law, we disclose that Monika Kobylecka is not a registered health professional within Australia.

Monika Kobylecka has had the unique opportunity of studying, working, and teaching with Kiiko Matsumoto Sensei for more than 15 years, and has dedicated herself to the practice and teaching of this clinically effective Acupuncture style. Monika specialises in presenting Kiiko’s most up-to-date information, in a highly structured and coherent manner, allowing attendees to maximise their understanding of Kiiko Style Acupuncture, enabling them to apply it fluently within their practice on their first day back in clinic, for outstanding results.

History of Kiiko Matsumoto Style Acupuncture:

Nagano-Sensei-222x300 KIIKO 2025 | Sydney, Australia

Who was Master Nagano?

In post-war Japan, Master Acupuncturist Kiyoshi Nagano began a remarkable and fruitful investigation. Despite being blind, Nagano memorized classical Chinese medicine literature and developed a unique and ingenious theoretical and clinical approach that incorporated classical concepts and emergent insights from Western medicine. His ideas and methods did not follow an established group, which brought a certain stigma in Japanese acupuncture circles. Being mentally robust, he was proud of his ‘lone wolf’ status. Over the next half a century – using his extraordinary palpation and pulse diagnosis skills as a guide – he crafted ingenious acupuncture protocols for all types of conditions. He also became a mentor to two of the most important Japanese acupuncture teachers of our time: Master Acupuncturist Kiiko Matsumoto and Tsuyoshi Shimamura. Master Nagano passed away in 2003

“Nagano Style” Instructors

You may find acupuncturist outside of Japan, including the US, claim that they “follow Master Nagano” or that they are teaching his style.Their knowledge of his practice is limited to the information gathered through texts (as Master Nagano did not have any non-Japanese apprentices) and therefore leaves a lot of room for misinterpretation. In order to preserve his lineage, methods of diagnosing and treatments, Master Nagano gave his written permissionto Kiiko Matsumoto to teach his style in the West.

Apprenticeship

In Japan, a practitioner learns the medicine through experience. For hundreds of years students would learn this medicine through direct observation of a teacher in their clinic. In 1945 some of the first acupuncture schools began to emerge and students were formally taught in classrooms – this is sometimes referred to as the “Americanization of Acupuncture”. These students however, were required then, and still are today, to spend many hours following Master Acupuncturist in clinics.

All students of acupuncture in Japan commit hundreds of hours, observing thousands of treatments in their teacher’s clinics. This allows ample opportunity to learn every detail of the Mater’s style and ask questions. This type of apprenticeship is taken very seriously and is still an essential part of the acupuncture training culture in Japan. While in the West, someone may ask “which school did you attend for your acupuncture training?”, in Japan, the question is always “who is your teacher?“. Only those who have dedicated the time to following the Master Acupuncturist in their clinic can claim that he/she is “their teacher” and truly represent that Master’s style of practice

KMS instructor approval criteria

There are many people that offer instructions or comments on KMS acupuncture. They have various degrees of understanding of Kiiko Sensei’s techniques and clinical approaches. In order to preserve a valid representation of this style as well as the legacy of Master Nagano, Kiiko Matsumoto has the following criteria for instructors of KMS acupuncture:

  • someone who has practiced KMS acupuncture for a length of time
  • someone who has apprenticed with Kiiko Matsumoto in her practice and closely observed her techniques
  • someone who is constantly taking classes with Kiiko Sensei and expanding their knowledge.
  • someone who has a clear understanding of the material both past and present
  • someone who has personally been approved by Kiiko Matsumoto to teach the material

KMS acupuncture instructors must meet all of the above listed criteria.

The following individuals meet approval criteria:
Monika Kobylecka, Lisa McLoughlin, Neal Sirwinski, Grace Rollins, Holly Guzman, Andy Harop, Ran Kalif, Julie Lim Greif, Ana Nieves & Vidhya “V” Rojanavongse.
Plus KMS instructors at: Five Branches University, Eastern School of Acupuncture & AcuMed.

Seminar Curriculum:

KIIKO 2025 | Sydney, Australia: New and Advanced Topics in KMS Acupuncture

One of the most important aspects of all of Kiiko Sensei’s live seminars is staying true to the original foundational palpation-style acupuncture material that she has been teaching for several decades, as well as bringing new and effective diagnostic and treatment methods that she has been developing, to share with her students to augment the total body of work that Kiiko Sensei has developed to date, which encompasses the Kiiko Matsumoto Style of Acupuncture. A perfect balance of original and new material!

IMG_4888-1024x683 KIIKO 2025 | Sydney, Australia

In Kiiko’s live seminars, the primary focus is always to:

  1. Cover the latest, newest, and most advanced material that Kiiko Sensei has been working on to meet the needs of emerging health issues of our current generation.
  2. Share new areas of interest that Kiiko Sensei has been exploring which are inspired by the classics, or her original masters, which she has brought into the clinic, and achieved outstanding results with.

With Kiiko Sensei’s new material, anything that “makes the cut” (simple to find reflexes, easy to apply treatment, highly effective results in the vast majority of cases, and easy to learn and apply) is added to the massive body of work of KMS acupuncture, and is shared with Kiiko Sensei’s students as soon as possible.

In this 3-day live seminar, Kiiko Sensei will be sharing the latest and newest methods through lecture and demonstration, focusing on the material of the last 10 years, and the latest material that is currently under development.

We currently cannot provide further details on the exact nature of the new material to be covered yet, as at the date of the seminar, Kiiko Sensei’s latest and newest material will most likely be presented to, and demonstrated on seminar attendees.

However, what we can suggest at this point in time is that major areas of diagnostic and treatment focus will be divided into the 3 primary regions of diagnosis in KMS Acupuncture: the abdomen, the neck and the back, and their relevant associated treatments/treatment points.

We will be sure to update you with more information on the curriculum of the seminar closer to the date of the seminar.

Seminar Structure:

This 3-day live seminar in Kiiko Matsumoto Style Acupuncture meets your continuing education needs through a balance of detailed lectures, demonstrations and Q+A, delivered by Kiiko Matsumoto Sensei and Monika Kobylecka.

Daily Schedule for this 3-day seminar:

Please return to this section at a later date for a full schedule of each seminar day.

Pathways of Study in Kiiko Matsumoto Style Acupuncture:

There are several pathways of study in KMS acupuncture, all providing their own unique and enriching continuing education experience.

For those studying KMS acupuncture, or those new to KMS acupuncture, a balance of all the major pathways is recommended to foster your development. Of course, seeing the master, Kiiko Matsumoto Sensei, in action at a seminar is the most important of all pathways, so you can have a direct experience of KMS Acupuncture in real-time, performed by its founder, and see and understand the brilliant thought and treatment process of Kiiko Matsumoto Sensei when she is demonstrating on attendees from the seminar audience. However, the other pathways are also equally enriching in their own ways.

We outline the various pathways of study below:

  1. Live Seminars with Kiiko Matsumoto Sensei.
  2. Foundations and Advanced Hands-on Classes or an approved study program with an approved KMS Instructor.
  3. Online Theoretical Webinars/Recorded Seminars, or Online Courses in Foundations and Advanced methods of KMS, run by an approved KMS Instructor.

  6. Observing and assisting in Kiiko Matsumoto Sensei’s clinic (by special arrangement- for advanced practitioners only)

Presenter’s Media

We would like to give thanks to Sam Audette, and Dr. Joseph Audette, M.D.

Premium and Standard Seating Explained

We ask you to view our Seminar Seating Guide, below.
You will note that at the top of the image are the 2 entrances on the left and right sides which open to theatre aisles/stairways.
There are seating sections in the centre, and seating sections in the “wings.”
The centre, and the wings each have front row seating. We have colour coded areas to determine the various types of seating.

Premium Seating:

The central section front row seating is considered the Premium seating Area, where there are 2 Premium Seating sections- Gold and Silver.

Registrations for these two rows are offered on a “first come, first served” basis, and are at a set premium price.
Please note that there is no price difference between Gold and Silver Seating Options. It is your choice, and based on availability.

Only those that purchase these seating options are permitted to sit in this section, and they will have a specifically allocated seat (row and number), that they will stay in for the full 3-day duration of the seminar. This allocation will be indicated on your seminar attendee lanyard card.

Further to this, the centrality of the seating position is allocated based on the order of purchasing. Early purchase achieves prime seating position.

Please note that the first row (A) and the third row (C) are blocked for visibility purposes, and no seating is permitted in those rows. This is to maximise the viewing experience for those in the premium seating area, and we cannot alter this arrangement or allow seating in the blocked rows.

Those who are seated in the premium seating section are permitted to place their bags/belongings on the empty seats in front of their seat, as part of their premium seating arrangement.
